BEATLES Day By Day – 7/20/61

Thursday, 20th July, 1961

The Beatles played an evening concert at the St John’s Hall in Tubrook, Liverpool.

The Beatles also made repeated apperances in the Classified Ads section of today’s Liverpool Echo with ads promoting their upcoming appearances at the Aintree Institute (2 seperate ads), Hoylake Hall, The Cavern and Blair Hall.

The first of the Aintree Institute ads (which were still listed in the “Jazz” section) used the Beatles name as an eye catching device by bolding certain letters in its text:

Beatles to-morrow and / Every Friday / Aintree Institute / To-morrow night / Lively show / come Early to be / Sure of getting in..

The same section of classified ads also inclued a small four line notice announcing that the latest issue of Mersey Beat had gone on sale.

The second issue of Mersey Beat was the first of many to feature The Beatles on its cover an inside it included a report on The Beatles recording sessions in Hamburg and their one year contact with Bert Kamphfert.
