The Beatles played a lunch time gig at The Cavern before heading over to the Tower Ballroom in New Brighton for a special evening gig.
The evening was Brian Epstein’s most ambitious promotion to date, a massive 12 act, five-and-a-half hour concert headlined by American superstar, and idol to Paul McCartney, Little Richard. The Beatles took second billing on this evening but they weren’t complaining.
As part of his tour group Little Richard bought with him a young keyboard player named Billy Preston. In a strange incidence of past and future Beatles history colliding, also on the bill were Lee Curtis & The All-Stars featuring their new drummer, Pete Best.
At 10:00pm that same evening Radio Luxembourg broadcast the Love Me Do promotional interview taped earlier in the week. After its first week on sale Love Me Do was sitting at #49 on the UK singles charts.
