The Beatles Beat The Bard
According to this report in the UK’s Guardian, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart’s Club Band has surpassed William Shakespeare’s Hamlet or Romeo & Juliet as a “global cultural reference point.”
It seems that the work of John, Paul, George and Ringo from 40 years ago has more resonance for the iPod generation than the 400 year old words of The Bard. According to an academic conference, the Fab Four are now “the world’s primary transmitter of the English language.”
