BEATLES - Day By Day - 10/5/62
Friday, 5th October, 1962
Even though they weren’t playing a gig, nor were they in the studio, this was one of the most important days in The Beatles career.
On this day the wait was over as EMI released single R45-4949. Also known as Love Me Do / P.S. I Love You - The Beatles first single, recorded a few weeks earlier at Abbey Road. The initial pressing released on this day (pictured below) featured Ringo’s drumming from the 4th September sessions, while subsequent pressings featured the version from September 11th with Andy White on drums.

The other EMI/Parlophone releases on this day were The King Brothers, Johhny Angel, Nicky Hilton, Shane Fenton (later better known as Alvin Strdust) & The Fentones, James Brown & The Famous Flames, The Temperance Seven, Matt Monro, Houston Wells & The Marksmen, Ken Jones & His Orchestra, and Jill Graham.

Well, they seem to have played the Co-op Hall in Nuneaton on the 5th October 1962, second on the bill after Buddy Brittain and Teh Regents. Pete Chambers writes about this in his book The Beatles Sent To Coventry (out now!)
Cheers, Robert
