“Starr Fields”
The BBC is reporting that “work is beginning on a £1m project to turn a rundown area of Liverpool into a school sports facility, named after former pupil Ringo Starr. Dingle Swings recreation ground is being converted into “Starr Fields” in honour of the former Beatle. It will include a floodlit synthetic pitch, three tennis and netball games areas and a changing pavilion for Shorefields Community School. The new facilities will also be used by local primary schools, giving younger children the chance to take part in a wide range of sports.
“Ringo Starr has offered his support for the scheme and is as enthusiastic as we are about the opportunities it offers to young people.” said the school’s head teacher, John Charnok.
