The icSouthport website has an intersting article on-line that discusses just how much the Beatles related tourist trade is worth to its neighboring city of Liverpool.
The answer, “around £200m” a year.
I found the article fascinating as during my time at college in Liverpool in the early 1980s, the legacy of The Beatles was studiously ignored by the city. In fact they almost did everything possible to downplay the connection. I am planning to be back on Merseyside some time during next year’s European Capital of Culture celebrations, and am looking forward to discovering just how much it’s changed.
