Harrison Album and McCartney Lyrics Go On Sale
According to a report in the UK’s Sunday Mirror, a rare signed Beatles album belonging to George Harrison’s sister is going under the hammer – and is expected to fetch more than £50,000.($98,000) Harrison’s only sister Louise is parting with her copy of Meet The Beatles, the first album they released in the US.
Louise got it signed on a train to Washington DC on the band’s first concert tour of America in 1964. “I got all of them to sign it for me,” said Louise, now 75. For a while, the record – one of only nine signed US albums – was housed in a rock’n'roll display in President Clinton’s library in Little Rock, Arkansas.
While The TIMES reports that Christies in London will be auctioning a page of Paul McCartney’s hand written draft lyrics for the Beatles song Maxwell’s Silver Hammer. Christie’s expects it to fetch up to $300,000 (£151,000).
“McCartney lyrics rarely appear on the market and have not appeared for about six years,†said Helen Hall, of Christie’s.
The lot also includes two copies of the song that a member of the Beatles’ staff wrote out for use by other members of the band. They are the only trio of Beatles lyrics to have appeared on the market.
