Ringo flies to Paris from London and joins the rest of the group for a warm up show at the Cinema Cyrano in the Parisian suburb of Versailles.

Before the Beatles performed two more houses of The Beatles Christmas Show at the Astoria Cinema in Finsbury Park, George and Ringo taped a segment for the BBC radio show The Public Ear.

The segment took the form of an audio letter encouraging listeners to listen to the American R&B artists that had influenced the Beatles themselves and was broadcast on the 12th January.

The Beatles start the day at the EMI Abbey Road Studios in London without George. During the morning Ringo ovedubs vocals for I Wanna Be Your Man.

George arrives back from his visit to the US around lunch time and the group moves over to the NEMS Enterprises London offices on Monmouth Street for a radio interview. The interview was for a the BBC spoken word magazine program The Public Ear. This particular show, scheduled to be broadcast on November 3rd, was devoted to The Mersey Beat and also included interviews with Bill Harry (founder of Mersey Beat), Pete Best and Millie Sutcliffe (Stuart’s mother).

After the interview was taped Ringo drove to Southend to see a show featuring The Everly Brothers, Bo Diddley and The Rolling Stones.

After almost nine months of continuous touring, TV and radio appearances, as well as recording sessions, the Beatles took a much needed vacation. John flew to Paris with his wife Cynthia, where they were joined by Brian Epstein. George and his brother Peter flew to the USA to visit their sister Louise. Paul and Ringo headed off together for a break in Greece. They would be out of the country until October 2nd.

Filming for the BBC TV documentary continues in Liverpool. This time it picks up outside Ringo’s house at 10 Admiral Grove with Ringo battling his way past a crowd of adoring and screaming kids to George’s waiting open topped car. John and Paul were present but did not participate in this sequence. Ringo then shot a solo interview where he stated his ambition to become a ladies hair-dresser.

With filming complete in Liverpool it was back to Southport for the penultimate night of their engagement at the Odeon Cinema.

The completed documentary was eventually titled “The Mersey Sound” and was broadcast in London and the north of England on 9, October, 1963 and again nationally on 13, November, 1963.

This performance/recording session is the first time that Ringo uses his new Ludwig drum kit.

It was December 9, 1980, and John Lennon had been shot and killed just one day earlier outside his New York apartment. Not since April 25, 1975, on The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder had Lennon sat with anyone for a television interview. Snyder re-aired his conversation with the former Beatle while new guests Lisa Robinson and Jack Douglas provided additional commentary in light of the previous day’s tragic event.

Live via satellite from London, it’s Paul McCartney! By 1979 Wings was already a great band with a solid following, but that didn’t stop Tom Snyder from asking Paul about a Beatles reunion. This conversation took place via satellite from London just prior to Wings going onstage for a holiday concert.

Interviewed in Los Angeles, Ringo talks about his then-current album Stop And Smell The Roses-a title that reflects what Ringo was in effect doing at that time after years of “turmoil, ecstasy, frenzy and confusion,” as Tom notes. Ringo also speaks out about his dear friend John Lennon.

He says, “By 1965 we were turning into really bad musicians because we literally couldn’t hear ourselves over the screaming from the audience. I was going downhill as a musician, and so was everyone else in the band.”
