The Beatles start the day at the EMI Abbey Road Studios in London without George. During the morning Ringo ovedubs vocals for I Wanna Be Your Man.

George arrives back from his visit to the US around lunch time and the group moves over to the NEMS Enterprises London offices on Monmouth Street for a radio interview. The interview was for a the BBC spoken word magazine program The Public Ear. This particular show, scheduled to be broadcast on November 3rd, was devoted to The Mersey Beat and also included interviews with Bill Harry (founder of Mersey Beat), Pete Best and Millie Sutcliffe (Stuart’s mother).

After the interview was taped Ringo drove to Southend to see a show featuring The Everly Brothers, Bo Diddley and The Rolling Stones.

The Beatles perform a nighttime show at the Cavern Club, Liverpool. The supporting act is Lee Curtis & the All-Stars, the group for which Pete Best is drummer. This is the last time that any of The Beatles will see Pete Best in person.

The Beatles play an engagement at the Queen’s Hall in Widnes, joining them on the bill are the Lee Curtis All Stars, featuring Pete Best on drums.

The plot centers around a character played by Rainn Wilson, who was in this Eighties hair band, and he got kicked out right before they became famous, just like Pete Best. So he’s sitting at a bus stop and says ‘Man, this is tough! I can’t believe this happened to me!’, and Pete says ‘I know what you mean!’. And then the bus pulls up.” 

“The Rocker” is scheduled for release in 2008.

Early in the day Brian Epstein informed Pete Best that his services would no longer be required as a member of The Beatles. Pete had been with the group for just over 2 years. He would be replced by Ringo Starr.

Pete originally agreed to play until Ringo could join a few days later. However, unsurprisingly, he changed his mind later in the day.

This left The Beatles without a drummer for their gig at the Riverpark Ballroom on Union Street in Chester. Johnny Hutchinson of The Big Three was drafted in as a quick replacement.

The Beatles played two gigs at The Cavern with lunch-time and noght-time engagements. Although he didn’t know it yet, these would be Pete Best’s last gigs as a Beatle.

At some point during the day Brian Epstein had asked Pete to stop by his offices at NEMS the following day.

Earlier in the day Paul McCartney had called Rory Storm & The Hurricane’s drummer Ringo Starr inviting him to join The Beatles. Ringo agreed but said he needed to give Rory Storm three days notice to find a replacement drummer. he would join The Beatles on the 18th.

Accordiing to the article, Lennon called Best’s mother Mona – then the owner of the Casbah Club in Liverpool – out of the blue to ask if he could borrow the medals for the cover shoot with artist Peter Blake. Best said: “Every time John came to the Casbah, he would ask to see the medals. He just loved the look and the feel of them and never tired of the stories behind them. Mum lived in India for a while, which was when my grandad was awarded the medals. She was delighted to see John wear them on what turned out to be one of the greatest albums ever. John knew how important they were, so they were returned swiftly with a polite thank-you note.”

Major Shaw’s six medals – Lennon wore five of them – have gone on display to mark the album’s 40th anniversary at the Casbah in West Derby, Liverpool,

John, Paul and Pete fly from Liverpool to Hamburg to begin a seven week engagement at the Star-Club. The still sick George is scheduled to fly out the following day. It is the first time any of them have flown and are in a state of excitement when they arrive at Hamburg airport. At the airport they are met by Astrid Kirchherr, Stuart Sutcliffe’s fiance, who informs them of the death of their ex-bass player the day before.

“We’re not getting any younger,” Pete said. “We know what we’ve done and we’re not going to think any worse of each other if we had a chat now. God bless us all: it was all 40-odd years ago.”

The Beatles Fan Club organized its second gig at The Cavern. For the first half of the show the boys played in their old leather outfits, then changed into their new look Beno Dorn suits for the second half.

A photo taken on this evening shows early clues to Paul’s musical adaptability as he steps back to take over the drums, while Pete moves center stage to take lead vocals on the (as yet) unreleased Lennon & McCartney song “Pinwheel Twist.”
