BEATLES – Day By Day – 9/11/62

Tuesday, 11th September, 1962

A hastily scheduled return to EMI Studio Two at Abbey Road to follow up on last week’s recording session.  Once again the object was to try and record The Beatles first single. Unsure of Ringo’s studio experience, George Martin had hired session drummer Andy White to sit in. While Andy would provie the percussion Ringo would be left to play just the maracas on “PS I Love You,” (10 takes) and the tambourine on “Love Me Do.” (18 takes). A version of “Please, Please Me” with Andy White on drums was also recorded. The intense recording session ran from 5:00pm to 6:45pm.

Love Me Do” and “PS I Love You” were mixed into mono almost immediately after the session and went off to be naufactured as the A and B sides of The Beatles first single, to be issued the following month.
