BEATLES – Day By Day – 5/24/63

Friday, 24 May, 1963

Less than a year after landing a recording contract, The Beatles have their own radio show on the BBC. Today is the first recording session at the BBC’s Aeolian Hall in London for “Pop Go the Beatles.” The contract is for four programs with an option for an additional eleven if they prove popular enough. The format follows common practice at the time of having The Beatles hosting a featured guest. The Beatles’ guests for this first show are the Lorne Gibson Trio. The Fab Four perform “From Me to You,” “Everybody’s Trying to Be My Baby,” “Do You Want to Know a Secret,” “You Really Got a Hold On Me,” “Misery,” and “The Hippy Hippy Shake.”

Later that evening The Beatles rejoin the Roy Orbison tour for two “houses” at the Granada Cinema, in Walthamstow.
