BEATLES – Day By Day – 3/7/62

Wednesday, 7th March, 1962

The Beatles travelled to the Playhouse Theater on St. John’s Road in the Hulme district of Manchester (about 35 miles from Liverpool) to follow up on their sucessfull BBC audition a few weeks earlier. The group were at the theater to record a session for a BBC Light Programme (now BBC Radio One) show called Teenager’s Turn – Here We Go.

The Beatles’ rehearsals started at 3:45pm before changing into their new Beno Dorn stage suits for the first time. at 8:00pm they lined up with the other artists on the show, Brad Newman & The Trad Lads and the Northern Dance Orchestra to start recording in front of a live teenage audience. The Beatles preformed three songs at various points in the show. All three, Dream Baby, Memphis Tennesse, and Please Mister Postman, being cover versions of already popular songs. According to some reports they also performed Hello Little Girl, but it was not recorded for the following day’s forecast.
