BEATLES - Day by Day - 3/31/62

Saturday, 31st March, 1962

The Beatles second excursion to the southern areas of the UK, and their first under Brian Epstein’s management, seems at first glance to be almost as strange in its choice of venue as the abortive trip to Aldershot the previous December.

This time The Beatles performed at the Subscription Rooms on George Street in the market town of Stroud, Gloucesterhire in the south-west of England. Epstein had booked the group through the London based Cana Vareity Agengy, possibly expecting to secure dates in the capital city. However Cana placed the group on the talent list for its “Jaybee” subsiduary which primarliy promted dances at various venues in the western counties.

The gig was well advertised with the “Sensational Beatles” billed as “Liverpool’s top vocal and instrumental group -Stars of Polydor records.” Also appearing on the bill were The Rebel Rousers. The gig was advertised as running between 8:30 and 11:45pm. A polite request at the bottom of the gig notices included a request from the city councilĀ  - “No Teddy Boys, and Ladies please do not wear stilletto heels.”
