The Beatles performed at the Village Hall in Knotty Ash as part of a “St. Patrick’s Night Rock Gala” alongside Rory Storm & The Hurricanes (featuring Ringo Starr on drums).
The event had been organized by promoter Sam Leach who had taken over the responsibility of organizing “beat nights” at the venue from Mona Best, Pete’s mother. Sam booked the top two Liverpool bands hoping to increase the nights takings sufficiently to cover the cost of his engagement party that evening. The celebrations started immediately after the show with members of both groups in attendance and carried on through the night and into the following afternoon.
