BEATLES – Day By Day – 1/24/62

Wednesday, 24th January, 1962

The Beatles played two gigs at The Cavern, one at lunch-time and one at night-time.

More importantly between the two shows they gathered at Brian Epstein’s office to formally sign  a management contract. The signing was witnessed by Brian’s assistant Alistair Taylor. Pete Best, George Harrison, John Lennon and Paul McCartney all signed the contract which would give Brian Epstein 25% of their future earnings. As a sign of good faith Brian did not sign (and wouldn’t until after the first Beatles single was released the following October).

In fact as Paul and George were still minors under British law at the time (age of consent was still 21) they should have had a parent along as witnesses, so technically the contract wasn’t legally binding.
