BEATLES – Day By Day – 1/22/62

Monday, 22nd January, 1962

The Beatles played a lunch-time session at The Cavern, however this time it was only for one hour with a reduced admission price of 1/- (1 shilling). The “lunch hour” length would be run as an experiemnt for a further four gigs before reverting back to the regular two-hour sessions.

In the evening The Beatles started their move towards more up-market venues with a performance at The Kingsway Club on the Promenade in the seaside resort town of Southport (which confusingly is actually just north of Liverpool.) Although not yet formerly under contract with Brian Epstein his influence could be felt with the way this date was promoted with local advertisments and a press release with photographs sent to the local papers in advance of the gig.

One of the newspaper ads read:

THE

BEATLES

Come And Meet

“PETE, PAUL, JOHN and GEORGE”

The Group Everyone has been asking for – Now they’re here, at the

KINGSWAY

NEXT MONDAY – ONLY 2/6

Come and hear them play their latest record, It’s Sensational.
