The Beatles played their first gig of the year at The Cavern at lunch time before heading the 113 miles south through a blizzard to perform an evening show at the Plaza Ballroom on Halesowen Road in the Old Hall region of Dudley.
They were due to follow the Old Hill perfomance with a late show in Kings heath only 11 miles away, but the increasing snowfalls and cold prevented them from making the journey and the gig was postponed.
The Beatles second single, Please, Please Me, is released.
